Which version is right for you?

Imatest 5.0:  All functions of Imatest Image Sensor have been incorporated into Imatest Master.

Imatest is available in several GUI (Graphic User Interface)-based versions.

  • Studio, with everything individual photographers need to test their cameras and lenses.
Studio is only available to individual photographers.
  • Master, the full-featured industrial-strength version for engineers and scientists who develop and evaluate imaging systems. Acquire images directly from several manufacturer’s development systems. Images can be updated and analyzed in real time with the Rescharts, Multicharts, and Uniformity-Interactive modules.
  • As of Imatest 5.0, Image Sensor (IS) has been discontinued. All functionality can now be found in Imatest Master.

Imatest is also available in non-GUI Industrial Testing (IT) versions (both EXE and DLL) that are suitable for automated testing in production lines.

Comparison between versions

SFR Studio Master
SFR Any Angle: Calculate MTF for any edge angle.

Multicharts Studio Master
Interactive analysis of tones and colors in the X-Rite Colorchecker (24-patch and SG) and IT-8.7 charts
Analysis of ChromaDuMonde 28, UTT, specialized grayscale, and other charts

User-supplied reference files
Special charts: analyze patterns of squares arranged on a circle as well as many special Color, Imatest 36-patch Dynamic range, ISO, and Other test charts, many of which are also analyzed by Stepchart for Imatest Master .
Stepchart Studio Master
Tonal response, noise, and dynamic range analysis
Batch runs (multiple input files) limited
Tonal response for separate R, G, B, Y channels (figure 3)
Chart density (reference) values can be read from a file.
Analyzes several non-linear (multiple row or circular) charts such as the Imatest 36-patch Dynamic range, and ISO-14524 (OECF), ISO 15739 (Noise), ISO 16067-1 (Scanner), QA-62, and ST-51 (EIA grayscale) charts.
Rescharts Studio Master
SFR Edge and MTF plots, Chromatic aberration plots. See SFR (above) for more details.
Log Frequency MTF plot
Log Frequency Color moiré plot
Log Frequency-Contrast module; shows effects of noise reduction,
